There was fear for her safety as she had a history of self-harm. ACIM placed alert calls to residents and businesses in the area asking anyone with information to contact Police. In response to the alert the agency received a tip which assisted them in locating the girl that evening safe about a half mile away.

The woman was reported to have dementia. A Child Is Missing placed over 300 telephone alert calls to the area around the woman’s home which assisted deputies in locating the woman safe in the woods less than a mile from from her home a short time later.

Anne Arundel County, Maryland Police Department “With the help of A Child Is Missing alert and social media websites, we were able to locate missing person after only 3.5 hours. Thanks to civilians responding to your alert and the social media network.” This was the written response to A Child Is Missing after Corporal Holquist activated the Alert on Monday, December 30, 2013. A 29 year old man reported to suffer with mental disorders was reported missing from a care facility in Gambrills. A Child Is Missing sent more than 650 telephone alert calls to residents and businesses surrounding the man’s last seen location, asking anyone with information to contact Police. As a result of the alert calls, Police were able to locate him safely about five (5) miles away, approximately 3.5 hours after the alert was initiated.

Baltimore City, Maryland (Baltimore County) Police Department “The calls made the public aware of the missing child. I had two citizens who received the phone calls meet me and helped hand out fliers in the area. The child returned home on his own, safe and unharmed. Thanks for your help,” said Baltimore City, Maryland Police Detective William Hildebrandt in response to a case follow-up after activating A Child Is Missing in an effort to locate an 11 year old boy that was reported missing from his home after he got into trouble at school. As it was already dark, his family, as well as law enforcement were growing more and more concerned for his safety as the minutes kept ticking by without knowing his whereabouts. In addition to passing out fliers, Detective Hildebrandt activated A Child Is Missing to assist the Baltimore City Police Department with the search, giving a general description of the boy and his last known whereabouts to the technician. More than 2,400 alert calls were placed requesting anyone with information about the child to contact the Police. When those calls did not produce sufficient results in locating the boy, the calling area was expanded. After more than 3,600 alert calls were placed, the missing child returned home on his own accord, safe and unharmed at 4:00 a.m. bringing the search to an end.

Anne Arundel County, Maryland Police Department Thursday, May 31, 2012, a 67 year old man suffering from Dementia and Chronic Bronchitis requiring oxygen was reported missing from his home in Severn. Sergeant Price responded and activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist in the search. Initially a little over 1,000 telephone alert calls were sent to the area around the man’s current residence in Severn, giving his description and asking anyone with information to contact Police. A few minutes later, an additional set of 1,000 alert calls were sent to an area where the man previously lived, believing he could be headed toward that area. Tips came into the department that helped narrow down the search to the area where the man previously lived. This enabled Police to locate the man safe approximately 15 miles away from his home.

Anne Arundel County, Maryland Police Department “Thanks for your service! ACIM combined with the Silver Alert helped us find this missing person!” The missing person was an 81 year old woman with Alzheimer’s that had driven away from an assisted living facility the afternoon of January 26, 2012. She had just arrived at the facility and did not know the area or how to get back. It was unknown exactly how long she had been missing but it was possibly up to 6 hours. Given this information, telephone alert calls were placed surrounding the facility as well as the woman’s previous residence in Virginia. In response, the station received several calls with information and these leads along with the information generated from the Silver Alert enabled Police to locate the woman safe approximately 35 miles away later that evening.

Anne Arundel County, Maryland Police Department Around 5pm on Saturday, September 3, 2011, Corporal Beaujon contacted A Child Is Missing regarding a missing 18 year old girl reported to have the mental capacity of a six year old. The girl also suffered from epileptic seizures and was prone to falling from the seizures and as a result had broken her nose several times in the past. Police had already started going door to door in an effort to locate the missing girl and had checked all obvious places. ACIM sent over 1,600 telephone alert calls to residents and businesses surrounding the girl’s home, asking anyone with information to contact Police. In response, neighbors began to come out of their homes to assist in the search. One of the searchers along with Police finally found the girl hiding on her own property, approximately 2 hours after the alert was initiated.

Hagerstown, Maryland (Washington County) Police Department The morning of Tuesday, July 12, 2011, Captain Holtzman contacted A Child Is Missing to request assistance in locating a 9 year old boy that had been missing since Monday night. K9 bloodhounds had been called in, and had tracked the boy’s scent to a location southeast of his home. A Child Is Missing placed calls in the area surrounding the boy’s home and the area of interest, asking residents and businesses to be on the lookout and to contact Police if they saw the boy. A store that had received the alert asked a customer if they had heard about the alert and the boy had happened to be at her house. She immediately contacted Police when she learned of his missing status and he was reunited safe with his family.

Police received 3 calls from residents who were able to provide leads, giving the girls direction of travel. Approximately 40 minutes after the alert the girl was found wandering in the woods 2 miles away from her home. She was safe but transported to the hospital for further checkup.

According to a case follow-up report, a resident that received the alert spotted the boy and recognized him from the description in the alert. She called Police, and the boy was located, safe, approximately 2 miles from his residence.

Charles County, Maryland Sheriff’s Office The morning of Tuesday, October 5, 2010, Detective Klezia ended an exhaustive search for a missing 60 year old woman suffering from dementia with the assistance of A Child Is Missing Alert. The woman had been missing for over 2 days, and a thorough search with bloodhounds had turned up nothing. ACIM placed over 1,100 alert calls surrounding the woman’s home in Waldorf. In response, Police received a tip from a woman informing them that the missing woman was being held in jail in the neighboring county. The woman had walked down a road and asked a motorist for a ride to that county. At some point the woman had gone into a store, become confused and refused to leave that store. The owner of the store had called law enforcement and the woman was taken into custody. Although this was not the best situation in which to find the woman, Detective Klezia expressed gratitude that his agency did not have to spend more time and resources searching for her, and that her family now knew where she was.

He dialed the toll free number, gave a description and pertinent details to the technician and within minutes, more than 1,700 phones surrounding the boy’s Westminster address were ringing with alert calls. The alert asked anyone with information about the boy to contact Police. In response, Police received 6 phone calls from residents that had seen the boy walking along a road approximately 6 miles from his home. Police responded to the location and found the boy safe.

Maryland State Police Department “Great job, thanks for your help,” said Maryland State Police Corporal John Revel after A Child Is Missing helped his agency located a missing 64 year old man in need of medical attention. Canine patrols and a helicopter were already searching for the man, but it was information from one of the six calls Police received from the alert calls placed in the area that led them to the man’s whereabouts. This occurred in the 5000 block of Sailfish Drive in Eden, Maryland on Monday, January 4, 2010. The man had last been seen at 9:38am, alert calls were placed at 1:47pm, and the man was safely located at 6:15 the following morning.

Anne Arundel County, Maryland Police Department When an 84 year old woman in need of medical attention went missing from the 8500 block of Jenkins Road in Pasadena, Maryland at 1:00am on November 24, 2009, the Anne Arundel County, Maryland Police Department called A Child Is Missing to activate the Alert Program to assist the search. More than 1,100 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding where the woman was last seen. One hour and 11 minutes later Police located the woman safe as a result of the alert calls. She was found in the 8400 block of Fort Smallwood Road in Baltimore, Maryland approximately 2/10 mile from where she had gone missing.

This came after the Federalsburg Police Department activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program to assist the search for the parents of a three year old boy who had been found in the area of Morris Avenue and Park Lane in Federalsburg at 10:00am on August 5, 2009. Without knowing the last name of the child, Police began the search which included more than 900 alert phone calls placed by A Child Is Missing. “It was a wonderful tool in assisting us in locating and returning a child to [his] family,” said Detective Jester, “from the time the call back started till the time we reunited the child with his parents was approximately 45 minutes.”

Bel Air, Maryland (Harford County) Police Department When the Bel Air, Maryland Police Department was presented with an elderly woman who had been found near the 200 block of Canterbury Road in Bel Air on August 5, 2009, Deputy Chief Armand Dupre was charged with locating the woman’s family. Deputy Chief Dupre quickly called A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program seeking anyone with knowledge of the woman’s family. The case was complicated by virtue of Bel Air Police having no way of knowing the woman’s name. Based on her description, Police received eight phone calls from the public with information. One of those calls was from the woman’s husband who had received the alert call and recognized his wife from the description. The woman’s family responded to Police and was reunited with her.

These alert calls resulted in some 200 calls to Crisfield Police by alert citizens with information. On January 21, 2008, the woman had wandered out of her house in 13 degree weather after her husband went to sleep shortly after 10:00pm. Due to the rural nature of the area, upon mapping this location, only 28 alert calls were placed. This resulted in one call to the Sheriff’s Office—which led deputies to the missing woman. She was safely recovered and reunited with her husband at home.

After nearly 3,500 alert calls were launched in Sykesville, Maryland, the Sheriff’s Office received more than 30 calls from alert citizens. A 75 year old man with Alzheimer’s had gone missing three hours earlier and Daugherty was seeking help from the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. Jimenez quickly mapped the Owings Mills area where the man had last been seen and launched more than 3,300 alert calls there. Approximately 25 calls were received by Baltimore County PD in response to the alert calls. One of those 25 calls led officers directly to the missing man.

Catonsville, MD (Baltimore County) – A ten-year-old boy was reported missing in the early evening of March 8 2006. Following procedure, Officer Owings of the Baltimore County Police Department went to the child’s home for further investigation. Upon arrival, he spoke with the father who told him that the family had been in an argument about school, resulting in the son leaving a note detailing that the boy had run away about a half hour before the police had been called. Officer Owings then contacted A Child Is Missing, who took the child’s description and the other details regarding a neighborhood alert. ACIM contacted over 1700 phones within a mile of the missing child’s address. Additionally, many police units conducted a large search in an effort to find the juvenile. The Baltimore County Police received approximately 25 calls from citizens of Catonsville directing the search to a nearby road where a boy meeting the description sent out had been seen. The missing child was found shortly thereafter, and was back at home with his family within 2 hours of the alert calls being distributed across the region. Officer Owings was quoted as saying “This Program Helped us find this juvenile with the help of residents in the surrounding area. I feel it is a great program and should be utilized whenever possible”.
