Bloomfield, New Jersey (Essex County) Police Department Saturday, June 5, 2010, Detective Menzel activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist his agency in a search for a missing 12 year old boy. The boy had gone missing after attending a school dance, and of particular concern was that the school had the boy checked off as being picked up by an adult but no name or information had been recorded about the adult. More than 7,000 alert calls were launched around three addresses, including the school where the dance was being held, the boy’s residence, and the school the boy attends. In response, Police received several calls from the community with information. One call came from a woman a few houses down from where the boy was attending a sleepover. Upon receiving the alert call, she contacted the neighbor hosting the sleepover, who then contacted Police, and the boy was returned home safe.

Montclair, New Jersey (Essex County) Police Department A 74 year old woman with Alzheimer’s was reported missing on January 9, 2010. The Montclair Police Department quickly activated The A Child is Missing Alert, and over 3000 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 400 block of Bloomfield Avenue, where she was last seen. A woman who received the alert call and who had seen the missing woman called Police, enabling them to locate her at a park approximately one mile from where she had gone missing. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where she received medical treatment.
