Story:

South Jordan, Utah (Salt Lake County) Police Department, Monday, August 23, 2010, Officer Winkler was searching for an 11 year old boy with cognitive disabilities that went missing from his elementary school. A Child Is Missing was contacted to assist in the search and more than 2,200 alert calls were placed, blanketing the area surrounding the boy’s school, giving his general description and asking anyone with information to contact Police. In response a recipient of the alert saw a boy matching the description riding a bicycle outside his home called in, and then went outside and remained with the boy until Police arrived.

Story:

Bountiful, Utah (Davis County) Police Department Thursday, July 8, 2010. A 92 year old woman suffering from dementia walked away from a care center the previous afternoon and hadn’t been seen since. Chief Ross activated A Child Is Missing Alert to aid his agency in her safe recovery. More than 1,700 alert calls with the woman’s name and description were placed in the area where she had last been seen. A woman, having received the alert call, told her son about the missing woman. As he was going to water a neighbor’s garden, he located the woman asleep in the neighbor’s yard. Total time from activation to safe recovery was 1 hour and 18 minutes, thus preserving law enforcement time and resources.

Farmington, Utah (Davis County) Police Department, Wednesday, June 2, 2010. When a 3 year old boy playing with his 2 puppies wandered away from his house, his parents were quick to notify the Farmington Police Department, who wasted no time in activating an A Child Is Missing Alert Call. Almost 2,200 calls were made to the area, generating heavy response to the Police. One of the families who received the call checked their yard and located the boy, 4 houses from where he had wandered off. The time from Alert Call to recovery was 33 minutes, thus preserving law enforcement time and resources.

Harrisville, Utah (Weber County) Police Department Monday, May 17, 2010, the A Child Is Missing Alert was activated to assist the Harrisville Police Department search for an 11 year old girl. The girl’s parents, having sent her to school early that morning, became alarmed when the school called a few hours later to inquire about her absence. More than 1,900 alert calls were placed surrounding the girl’s home, where she had last been seen. In response, Police received three calls from residents with information. One of those calls was a woman who stated she had seen a girl matching the description given in the alert shopping at a local store. Police recovered the girl safe, approximately an eighth of a mile from where she had gone missing.

Weber County, Utah Consolidated Dispatch When two children went missing in Roy, Utah on June 23, 2009, the Weber Area Consolidated Dispatch Center contacted A Child Is Missing knowing alert phone calls would enhance law enforcement’s search. A nine year old boy and an eleven year old boy had gone missing from the 2700 block of West 5200 in Roy, Utah at 11:30am. More than 2,300 alert phone calls were placed to the area surrounding that location generating approximately 25 calls from the public with information. The “children were found by an individual that received the [alert] message,” said Weber Area Consolidated Dispatcher Kris Zobell. Ultimately the boys were found safe approximately one mile from where they had gone missing.

Davis County, Utah Sheriff’s Office “Great response and assistance from your organization,” said Sergeant Scott Harper of the Davis County, Utah Sheriff’s Office after A Child Is Missing successfully assisted his agency’s search for a missing 75 year old woman. The woman had gone missing from the 1700 block of West 350 North in Westpoint, Utah on June 8, 2009 at 11:45am. More than 5,700 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding that location, resulting in two calls from the public with information. That information, enabled the Sheriff’s Office to locate the woman safe approximately ½ mile from where she had last been seen.

St. George, Utah (Washington County) Police Department Sergeant Aaron Townsend of the St. George, Utah Police Department was working an out of the ordinary case on May 16, 2009. His agency received a report of a child that had been located and he was charged with locating the child’s parents. The child, a 35 pound two-year-old boy wearing nothing but a diaper, had been located just after 8:00am in the 400 block of Man O War Road in St. George. The alert calls placed by A Child Is Missing described the boy and sought anyone with information about his parents. “This was a found child report,” Townsend said, “we used this alert to find his parents.” “This really worked great for us,” he said.

“Thanks, it got the word out fast,” said North Ogden, Utah Police Sergeant Blaine Seamons of the A Child Is Missing alert calls. “We had several people come out of their homes to help look,” he said. This after an 11 year old boy went missing on April 17, 2009. More than 1,500 alert calls were launched by A Child Is Missing which enabled North Ogden Police to locate the boy approximately 1/10 of a mile from where he had last been seen.

“The system worked great. Within a few minutes we began receiving phone calls and were able to locate the child,” said Detective David Greco of the West Valley City, Utah Police Department after his agency used the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. It was March 4, 2009 and a 10 year old boy had gone missing from the 3700 block of South Sunnyvalee Drive in Salt Lake City at approximately 4:00pm. After the alert calls were placed to the area surrounding where the boy had last been seen, West Valley City Police located the child approximately 1 ½ miles away in the 4100 block of Jensen Circle in West Valley.

Shortly after noon on Monday, August 18, 2008 Officer Webber of the Provo, Utah Police Department called A Child Is Missing requesting help in the search for a missing 22 year old disabled girl who had gone missing the previous morning. After nearly 4,000 alert calls had been launched in the area surrounding the 2700 block of West 170 North in Provo, Police received three calls from alert citizens. One of those calls led to the woman’s recovery.

Story:

When a nine year old boy went missing in West Bountiful, Utah, having successfully utilized the A Child Is Missing Alert Program the previous month, Police there called the Alert Program. In response to the nearly 1,900 alert calls placed by A Child Is Missing in the area surrounding the 900 block of Ruby Way, West Bountiful Police received “too many [calls] to count” from alert citizens. In addition to the calls, they had residents “stopping officers on [the] street” wanting to help. “Because of your calls, we were able to cover a lot more area than we could have alone,” West Bountiful Police Corporal Michael Buchanan said of A Child Is Missing. “This is the third time you have been instrumental in locating missing children [for our agency],” he said. “Our dispatch, who did not know of your service, was very impressed at how effective you were.” The response from the community enabled Police to safely locate the missing boy in Farmington, Utah.

Tremonton, UT (Box Elder County) - A seven year old girl was safely located at a friend’s house immediately after the A Child Is Missing Alert Program was launched by Tremonton Police Department, shortly after 3:00pm on October 11, 2007. More than 4,500 alert calls were placed resulting in 36 calls from alert citizens to Tremonton Police. One of these calls resulted in police locating the girl safely.

Provo, UT (Utah County) – On March 12, 2007 The Provo Police Department called A Child Is Missing for assistance with a missing 8-year-old boy. The ACIM Technician obtained all pertinent information from Officer Payne and within minutes 1165 phones began ringing in the neighbor hood. The Prove PD received a few calls from residents. “A construction worker called … said he helped the boy across the street. The investigation moved … closer to the boy’s home. It should be noted, without that phone call this could have gone on for several more hours until the boy reached his home,” stated Officer Payne.

On January 16, 2007, the Salt Lake City, Utah Police called A Child Is Missing regarding a nine year old boy who had gone missing from the Highland Park section of Salt Lake City. The boy had gone missing at approximately 12:30pm and Officer Greg Wilking activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. After more than 20 calls from the public were received with information about the missing boy, he was located approximately 2 ½ miles from where he had last been seen.

Story:

Cedar City, UT – On Monday morning, December 4, 2006, the Cedar City Police Department began a search for a 12-year-old girl who had gone missing from her school - a search that ended with a response to one of the 296 automated phone calls that had been placed to the area adjacent to her home by the A Child Is Missing alert program. The Cedar City Police Department called the toll free number for the A Child Is Missing alert program, provided key information to the technician, and, shortly after, the area was ringing with calls requesting those in the area to check their yards and complexes for the missing girl. The Police Department received some calls to the number the customized message provided and one led them to the location of the girl. Sheriff Mark Gower reported that she was found in a home a short distance from the school. Sheriff Mark Gower said, “Some leads to her recovery were provided by citizens in the area. Thanks for your prompt help in this matter.”

Story:

Ogden, UT (Weber County) – On the afternoon of December 3, 2006, the Ogden Police Department contacted A Child Is Missing to ask for assistance with an 8-year-old girl that had gone missing. Within minutes the ACIM technician obtained a detailed description of the missing juvenile and initiated over 12 hundred calls to residents and businesses in the neighborhood where she had gone missing. Approximately one hour later the Ogden Police Department called ACIM once again to expand the calling area. This time over 13 hundred calls went out to residents and businesses in the area. The juvenile was located shortly after the second round of calls were placed, at a nearby Chili’s Restaurant. Dispatcher Gilson and Officer Taylor said “Thank you for your help with this. This juvenile was found because of the outgoing phone notifications and media broadcasts.”

Missing Child - Recovered: Saturday, June 18, 2005

Story:

Salt Lake County, UT - On June 18, 2005, a 6-year-old girl was reported as missing. Officer Bolorowski of the West Valley PD (Salt Lake County, Utah) contacted A Child Is Missing and reported a full description to be distributed via telephone. A Child Is Missing placed 1379 calls over the area where she was last seen. Two of the calls back by residents had valuable information about the location of the child. She was returned to her family within 40 minutes of the calls going out to the community. Officer Bolorowski, WVCPD was quoted as saying “Great Service! This system made the difference! Thank you!”
