Marinette, Wisconsin (Marinette County) Police Department A seven year old girl who had last been seen at 4:00pm on November 10, 2009 in her back yard playing with a friend was missing in Marinette, Wisconsin. Police their called A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program which resulted in more than 1,300 alert calls being placed to the area surrounding the 1300 block of Marinette Avenue where the girl had last been seen. Thirteen calls with information were received by Marinette Police, one of which was “a call from a Pastor near the school [who] saw [the] girl picked up in a pickup truck,” according to Marinette Police. The caller also reported seeing the girl’s bike put in the back of the truck. With that information, Police were able to quickly locate the girl safe approximately six miles from where she had last been seen.

Marquette County, Wisconsin Sheriffs Office When a 63 year old man thought to be in need of medical attention went missing at 5:01pm on August 16, 2009 in Westfield, Wisconsin, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office began a search. That search included activation of the A Child Is Missing Alert Program which, in turn, placed nearly 600 alert calls to the area where the man had last been seen by his family. The alert calls resulted in two calls with information to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office which provided sightings of the missing man. Ultimately he was found safe at 10:04pm 12.4 miles from where he had gone missing.

Clark County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office When a three year old boy wearing blue shorts, a blue shirt, and red barn boots went missing from the 4300 block of Meridian Avenue in Granton, Wisconsin on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office quickly contacted A Child Is Missing. More than 2,800 alert calls were placed seeking assistance in locating the three foot tall, 35 pound, blonde hair, blue-eyed boy. As a result, “we received several calls from people in the community that had received your calls,” said Sergeant Louise Hackel. Information from those alert calls led Sheriff’s Office personnel to the safe location of the boy approximately ½ mile from where he had gone missing.

Wood County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office When a 16 year old girl ran away from the 4600 block of Breckenridge Court in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. Approximately 3,000 alert calls were placed to the area in question in hopes the run away would be located. A Wood County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said, “thanks for the help—[the alert] calls help track direction of travel for juvenile runaway.” This even after the Alert Program was activated the day after the girl ran away. She had last been seen on Monday, May 25, 2009 at approximately 3:30pm and the Alert Program launched calls searching for her the next day.

An elderly man in need of medical attention never showed up to a 1:00pm appointment on April 17, 2009 in Minocqua, Wisconsin. As Minocqua Police searched, they activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program and an alert was launched complete with a vehicle description. A person received the alert call and passed off the information to another person who happened to be driving south on Highway 47 and saw the vehicle in question driving north on Highway 47. They turned around, followed the vehicle, and Minocqua Police were notified of the man’s whereabouts.

Siren, WI (Burnett) – The Burnett County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program at 12:15pm on Sunday, June 17, 2007. Technician Eric Nelson took the call from Dispatcher Treague before launching in excess of 3,600 alert calls to the Siren area of Burnett County. Meanwhile Deputy Anton was spearheading the investigation in search of the eight year old that had gone missing 45 minutes earlier. At 2:51pm the child was safely located.

On Thursday, May 1, 2008 an elderly woman went missing from Portage, Wisconsin at approximately 3:30pm. Shortly after, Portage Police called A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program to assist their search. The alert message was crafted and in excess of 2,600 alert calls were launched in the area surrounding the 2,600 block of Airport Road in Portage. An alert citizen who received one of the calls did as the recording instructed: “please check your yard or complex and, if you have any information, call the Portage Police Department . . . “The man looked out his window, saw the woman standing in a wooded area near a business, and called the number the recording provided for Portage Police. Within 12 minutes of calls being launched, Police had located the missing woman.

Manitowoc, WI (Manitowoc County) – The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from A Child Is Missing on September 27, 2007 at 1:26 p.m. to locate a missing middle-aged woman. After determining that the individual was in need of medical assistance, an ACIM technician launched over 800 Alert Calls to the area where she was last seen. Deputy Eric Glaeser reported that “The party was located within 20 minutes of contacting ACIM. Local media event was held 10/01/07. Thank you.”

Valders, WI (Manitowoc) – Valders, Wisconsin Police Chief William Riesterer called the A Child Is Missing Alert Program himself on June 19, 2007 and, when the missing 11 year old boy for whom his agency was searching was located, he said of the Alert Program, “super job folks, this really works.” After an hour delay, the missing child’s mother contacted Valders Police. Though police confirmed the child had been in a nearby park, he had just left on his bicycle before they arrived. Valders PD quickly activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program and Technician Derejre Vazquez launched the alert calls. Valders PD fielded seven calls from those who had heard the alert calls—two of which were positive sightings. Ultimately the child was located within 15 minutes of the Alert Program activation by Chief Riesterer.

Ixonia, WI (Jefferson) – Jefferson County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office Detective Leah Meyer called Technician Kari Jimenez to activate the A Child Is Missing Alert Program on the night of June 12, 2007 at 9:55. Nearly four hours earlier a 12 year old boy had gone missing from Ixonia, Wisconsin and Meyer and Detective Margarita Gray were actively investigating the disappearance of this child who had been diagnosed with multiple disorders and had been suicidal in the past. At 3:00pm the next day, a man who had received the A Child Is Missing alert call notified the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office that his daughter had seen the missing child. Deputies responded and took the child safely into custody.

Waterloo, WI (Jefferson) – “This system worked great, it was the first time I had to use it,” said Waterloo, Wisconsin Police Sergeant Hoffhien of the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. This after he called on the assistance of the Alert Program to locate the parents of an infant who had gone been found in the 400 block of South Washington Street in Waterloo at 6:35pm on Friday, June 15, 2007. After more than 1,900 alert calls were launched in that area, the Waterloo Police Department fielded approximately 10 calls from alert citizens who had received the alert call and provided information to investigators. Less than two hours later, as a result of the information provided by citizens responding to the A Child Is Missing alert calls, Waterloo Police located the child’s mother and reunited her with her baby.

Kenosha, WI (Kenosha) - According to Sergeant Frederickson of the Kenosha, Wisconsin Police Department, a case he was working was resolved within 30 minutes of activating the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. When a 74 year old woman went missing from the 6500 block of 25th Avenue in Kenosha on May 25, 2007, police began searching. Once Frederickson called A Child Is Missing, more than 6,000 alert calls were launched to the area surrounding 25th Avenue. One of those calls was received by a citizen who saw the missing woman—prompting her to call Kenosha police to reunite the woman with her family.

Eau Claire, WI – On Christmas Day, December 25, 2006, a disabled male went missing from his home in Eau Claire. The Eau Claire Police Department contacted A Child Is Missing Alert Program for assistance. The ACIM Technician who took the call, utilized satellite mapping to pinpoint an area around his last known location to place calls containing his description and last known location asking residents and business owners for help. With in 10 minutes of the calls being placed, the subject was located. According to Officer Barton “A call went to a local gas station/store. Subject walked in about 10 minutes later. Your calls helped find him.”

Mayville, WI (Dodge County) – After A Child Is Missing launched more than 1,300 alert calls to help Mayville, Wisconsin Police search for a missing man, Captain Thomas Poellot said, “the system probably saved the person’s life.” On June 4, 2006, a man had injected himself with a medication used for cattle. Approximately 20 calls from concerned citizens were received by Mayville Police—providing information of the man’s whereabouts. Once police located him, he was rushed to the hospital and admitted into intensive care.

Kenosha, WI (Kenosha County) – On October 25, 2005, a 27-year-old autistic and mentally handicapped woman was reported missing to the Kenosha Police department. Sgt. Hannes advised the detective on the case to contact A Child Is Missing. He did so, and gave ACIM all pertinent information to place an alert call over the area. 3366 homes were notified of the situation, resulting on over 50 callbacks from the neighborhood, including one who went outside and located the missing person in her back yard. The found woman’s family was notified, and she was reunited with them within 30 minutes of the alert calls being placed.
